Glucovance is a combination medication containing glyburide and metformin. Glyburide works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing the amount of sugar produced by the liver. Metformin reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver and increases the body's response to insulin. This combination helps control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Glucovance is prescribed to improve glycemic control in adults with diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and single-agent therapy do not result in adequate glycemic control.
